Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen said patients are coming from neighbouring countries like India, Bhutan to receive treatment in Bangladesh.

"I have numerous proofs that doctors of Bangladesh have good talent. Patients are coming from Bhutan to receive treatment here. Not only are Bangladeshi patients going abroad, but many patients are also coming to our country from India," he said.

The minister said on Saturday during the induction ceremony for residents admitted to the MD-MS phase at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Mentioning that the doctors of Bangladesh are no less than those of any other country in the world, Dr Samanta Lal Sen said: "We have conducted surgeries on conjoined twins by bringing doctors from Hungary. I had seen that when anaesthesia was administered, the doctors from Hungary could not manage, but the doctors from Bangladesh could.

"Today, to those present here, I humbly want to say something. Let's bring the respect for doctors to such a level that people bow their heads when they see doctors. The main task here is to listen to the patients with patience and provide them service," Dr Samanta Lal Sen said.

The minister further said: "We will visit hospitals on time and devote ourselves to serving the common people. People do not want much, just a talk, and a pleasant exchange of well-being is enough to make them happy. Patients rely on doctors like the helpless to be freed from their illnesses. Doctors can easily establish a good relationship with their patients if they want. This increases the patients' confidence and allows for better treatment."
