Imposing a lockdown will not be necessary if people abide by the 11 directives recently issued to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said.
Lockdowns put a huge strain on a country’s economy, the minister said during an event at Manikganj Sadar Hospital on Saturday.
“The whole world has been seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases and Bangladesh is no exception,” he said.
“[Nearly] 4,400 new cases were recorded yesterday [Friday]... The daily infection rate is increasing by 3% every day. In such circumstances, everyone has to wear a mask, maintain social distance and get vaccinated,” Maleque added.
The government has enough Covid-19 vaccine doses in hand, he said, adding that over 140 million shots have already been administered.
