Educational institutions in the country are set to stay open in the foreseeable future, but academic activities in classrooms will continue to be limited considering the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 Chairman Dr Mohammad Shahidullah told Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.
"We will monitor entire situation at every moment and make the next decision based on it," he added.
The NTAC chairman made the remarks following a meeting with Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on the Covid-19 situation in the country.
Dr Mohammad Shahidullah also advised students to strictly adhere to hygiene rules and to get the vaccine as soon as possible.
Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel said: “As before, we will wait and see. This is not our decision, the high-ups and authorities will make the final call.”
NTAC spokesperson SM Alamgir said the education minister will address the situation in a press conference at 11am on Monday.
Earlier on Saturday, Education Minister Dipu Moni said schools would not be closed unless necessary.
“The educational institutes had to be closed down for one-and-half years. We don’t want to impose fresh shutdowns,” she told media.
“We want all the students to come back to school vaccinated, which is why we are prioritising their inoculation,” added Dipu Moni.
