The government will shift focus to vaccinating people in the rural areas against the coronavirus as the number of fatalities from villages have increased, says Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
“Seventy million people will be inoculated by December. We have planned to give more vaccines in the villages as the infection rate has gone up in rural areas,” he said on Saturday while addressing an event in Manikganj.
People over 50 years old will get the shots first in villages, he added.

“Starting with one lab for coronavirus testing, we now have 750. Besides, central oxygen plants have been provided to 110 hospitals across the country,” he added.
The minister said the government is providing various financial assistance to the people and various sectors affected by the pandemic.
Whereas the developed countries have been severely affected by the pandemic, the wheel of the economy in Bangladesh is still in motion, the minister added.
