Eighteen more deaths were recorded at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, as the country continues to reel from a devastating second wave of the pandemic.
Of the deceased, eight had tested positive for Covid-19, nine had the symptoms but had not been tested or did not have their test results, while one was receiving treatment at the hospital despite a negative test result.
Of them, nine were from Rajshahi district, three from Naogaon, two each from Natore and Chapainawabganj, and one each from Kushtia and Pabna, RMCH Director Shamim Yazdani told Dhaka Tribune.
With the latest development, the overall death tally of Covid-19 patients at RMCH since July 1 now stands at 139 while 354 others died in June.
Seventy people were also admitted to the hospital’s Covid-19 unit in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, said the director.
Forty-eight people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during this period.
Some 485 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital’s 454-bed Covid-19 unit and 20 more in the Intensive Care Unit.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 positivity rate continues to maintain an upward trend in the district. On Wednesday, 429 samples were tested, of which 114 were positive.
The infection rate decreased to 26.57% from 21.92% the previous day.
