Jabbar: Over 10 million mobile users left Dhaka this Eid

According to data, a total of 412,763 mobile subscribers entered Dhaka on Saturday alone

More than 10 million mobile subscribers left Dhaka from May 4 till Saturday to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr amid the Covid-19 restrictions that the government has imposed to stem the spread of the virus.

As many as 10,645,697 subscribers of four mobile phone operators left the capital in 12 days, reported Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Among the home-goers, 6,639,435 are Grameenphone subscribers, 1,950,280 Robi, 1,596,588 Banglalink, and 459,334 Teletalk users, Jabbar shared the statistics while expressing concern that this massive exodus amid travel restrictions would only increase Covid-19 infections.

According to the data, a total of 412,763 subscribers entered Dhaka on Saturday alone.

The rush of home-bound people continued even after Eid day as people violated the government's Covid restrictions on movement and ignored risks of infection.
