More than 8.8 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered till now, since the countrywide vaccination campaign began on February 7.
As of Monday, more than three million – 3,023,169 – have received both the shots, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of them, 1,956,314 are male and 1,066,855 are female.
On April 25, the government issued an official order on the suspension of administering the first dose of vaccine from April 26 and it will remain in force until further notice.
A total of 8,842,888 vaccine doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, produced by the Serum Institute of India, have been administered in Bangladesh till now.
The government has been providing the vaccine for free.
Bangladesh has also approved the Covid-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine for emergency use.

People aged 40 years and above can get registered to receive Covid-19 vaccines, the health ministry sources said.
Till 5:30pm on Monday, total 7,248,828 people have registered to take the Covid-19 vaccine jab in the country, added the DGHS press release.
The vaccination drive was conducted at 50 hospitals in Dhaka city and 1,005 hospitals outside the capital on Monday, the DGHS said, adding that the immunization program will begin at 8am and it will continue till 2.30pm every day.
But some hospitals will continue the vaccination program throughout the day, the health official said.
People have been asked to register by visiting www.surokkha.gov.bd website to receive Covid-19 vaccines.
