The measles-rubella vaccination campaign conducted by Rajshahi City Corporation has exceeded its target coverage in the city.

According to the city corporation’s health department, the vaccination target at the school and community levels in Rajshahi city was 54,886 children. However, a total of 57,370 children received the measles-rubella vaccine, achieving 104.53% of the target.

Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said the measles-rubella vaccination campaign is crucial to ensuring a healthy and safe future for children.

“The vaccination program is continuing under the supervision of the city corporation. Instructions have been given to ensure that no child remains outside vaccination coverage,” he said.

He added that the city corporation had already achieved its target in the first phase of the campaign and thanked everyone involved in the successful implementation of the program.

The first phase of the measles-rubella vaccination campaign was conducted from April 20 to May 10 through 438 school- and community-level centres across Rajshahi city.

Following a government decision, the deadline for the vaccination campaign has been extended until May 20.

Authorities are currently carrying out a “mop-up” drive to identify and vaccinate children who were previously left out. Rapid convenience monitoring is also being conducted and uploaded online, officials said.
