Bangladesh has witnessed an increase in daily infection by 99 Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
The country recorded 614 new cases on Wednesday morning whereas it was 515 on Tuesday.
With the latest figures, the total number of cases in the country now stands at 547,930.
Meanwhile, the country also logged a total of five more deaths in 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 8,428.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country through a press release on Wednesday.
Of the five deceased — four men and one woman — three were from Dhaka division and two from Chittagong division.
All of them breathed their last while undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
So far, 6,372 men (75.61%) and 2,056 women (24.39%) have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected currently stands at 1.54%.
The overall test positivity percentage till Wednesday is 13.40% with a total of 4,089,336 tests being conducted across the country till now.
As many as 16,414 samples, including some pending ones, were tested at the 217 authorized labs — government and private — across the country.
The latest figures showed a test positivity rate of 3.74%.
The health authorities said another 936 patients had recovered from Covid-19 through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the total recovery count to 499,627 with a 91.18% recovery rate.
On March 8, the health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 2,562,000 lives and infected as many as 115,372,000 people around the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.
As many as 91,169,000 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has affected 219 countries and territories across the planet.
