In Bangladesh, the least hit by the novel coronavirus are people under 20 years of age, according to an age-wise analysis of official data.
The mortality rate for the age group stands at less than 2%.
As of Friday, Bangladesh has reported 2,836 deaths and over 218,658 infections.
Children are at extremely low risk as only 0.63% of the deaths occurred for people under 10, while a little over 1% for age 11-20 and nearly 3% for age 21-30. Around 7% were aged 31-40.

However, over 45% of the people who died of Covid-19 in the country were over 60 years old and 29% were over 50 years old.
People aged 41-50 accounted for more than 14% of the virus fatalities.
Nearly eight in every 10 people that died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh are males. According to the latest data, 2,237 male patients died out of the 2,836 deaths, accounting for almost 79% of the fatalities.

“Those already affected by respiratory complications, high blood pressure, and diabetes contribute largely to the Covid-19 fatalities,” virologist Dr Nazrul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.
The former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), however, attributed the high mortality rate in the age groups of 41-50 and 51-60 as the infection rate is higher among those age groups.
