Results of about 50% of the samples tested for Covid-19 in the capital’s Wari area, which is currently under lockdown to stop the spread of the virus, came out positive.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh revealed the information while talking to reporters at the Nagar Bhaban after a meeting of the central management committee on lockdown enforcement on Tuesday.
He said the rate of coronavirus infection found in Wari area in the last three days has further proved the justification of the lockdown, reports BSS.
“We have observed that more than 50% of people living in Wari who went to get tested for Covid-19 came out to be positive.
“So, the lockdown must be enforced. Only then we would be able to make the area free from the deadly virus,” the DSCC mayor added.
Calling upon the locals to obey the lockdown keeping patience and tolerance, he said: “We are going to enforce the lockdown more strictly.
“We understand that the locals are facing various problems. They have been facing many difficulties in their trade, movement, and livelihoods due to the lockdown.”
Taposh requested the city dwellers to implement the lockdown in place with patience and forbearance as there is no alternative to following the health guidelines and the instructions instructed by the government to fight the pandemic.
A 21-day Lockdown began in parts of Old Dhaka’s Wari on Saturday and is expected to continue till July 25.
