Quader: Follow govt directives in locked down areas

The minister urged everyone to get tested as soon as there are any symptoms of virus infection, instead of hiding it

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged people living in areas under lockdown to follow the government’s directives strictly and to and face the current crisis with patience.

“Considering the high risk of coronavirus transmission, the government has declared general holidays in some areas and the people of those areas should strictly follow the government directives,” said Quader at a regular briefing at his official residence, reports UNB.

He said that the visiting Chinese expert team has appreciated the role of doctors and health workers of Bangladesh in fighting coronavirus despite working with various limitations.’

He urged everyone to follow hygiene rules, adding that negligence or laziness in adhering to guidelines can create dangerous health risks.

In response to the BNP secretary general's allegation that they were obstructed in their relief work, Quader asked them to mention who were obstructing them and to provide evidence of the obstruction.

Action will be taken if the allegations are proved to be true, he said, adding that obstruction in humanitarian work is not part of Awami League’s policy.

The minister also said that the government has taken initiatives to expand emergency services, including installation of ICUs and providing necessary equipment in district level hospitals.

It is currently trying to increase the capacity of coronavirus testing and treatment facilities despite various limitations, added Quader.

Samples are currently being tested in more than 60 labs and more labs will be added if required, he said.

Special initiatives have also been taken to procure medical equipment, safety equipment, and other necessary equipment, added Quader.
