Biman Bangladesh Airlines has decided to suspend all its flights, both international and domestic, till May 15.
Mokabbir Hossain, managing director and chief executive officer of the national flag carrier, on Wednesday confirmed Dhaka Tribune of the development, saying their decision was taken as the global coronavirus situation was yet to improve.
The national flag carrier usually operates on 17 international routes.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) on Wednesday also extended its suspension of all international and domestic flights until May 7.
Passenger flights to Bahrain, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom will come under this travel restriction.
However, special flights, air ambulance, emergency landings, and cargo flights will remain out of the purview of the suspension, according to CAAB.
Both Biman and CAAB have been extending suspension of all flights since last month in line with a government initiative to prevent the novel coronavirus from spreading further in Bangladesh.
