The government on Saturday reconstituted the board of directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, appointing Rumi A Hossain, chairman of the Executive Committee of Bank Asia, as the new chairman of the national carrier’s board.
The appointment was issued in an official order by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
The newly formed 13-member board includes Finance Secretary Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Civil Aviation Secretary Fahmida Akhtar, Assistant Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, and Army Engineer-in-Chief Major General Hasan Uz Zaman.
Other members are BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim, Policy Exchange Bangladesh Chairman M Masrur Riaz, United Commercial Bank Chairman Sharif Zahir, DBL Group Vice Chairman Abdur Rahim, ICMAB Additional Managing Director Mamunur Rashid, Barrister Khairul Alam Choudhury of Choudhury & Law Firm, and Dhaka University Professor Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaque of the Department of Marketing. Biman Managing Director and CEO Kaiser Sohel Ahmed is also on the board.
The reshuffle comes as the previous chairman, Sheikh Bashir Uddin—who served as an adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism under the interim government—was relieved of his duties on February 18 following a change in the government.
