New numbers show medical professionals in Bangladesh make up for 11 percent of the coronavirus cases in the country.
The Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) said on Monday that some 660 healthcare professionals have been tested Covid-19 positive since the first cases were reported on March 8.
“It means some 11% of the infected people are health professionals,” a statement quoted BMA Secretary General Ehteshamul Huq Chowdhury.
According to the BMA, a total of 295 doctors, 116 nurses and 249 other healthcare workers have been so far infected.
With cases among healthcare professionals rising, the BMA has demanded ensure ample supply of personal protective equipment (PPEs), N-95 or equivalent masks for healthcare professionals.
It also called authorities to ensure accommodation, food and necessary safety measures for healthcare workers at private clinics and hospitals.
The number of coronavirus infections in Bangladesh stands at 5,913 as of Monday with as many as 497 cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The coronavirus body count has hit 152 after seven new deaths were reported during the same time.
