The government has set up a media cell to curb rumours and fake news over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The health ministry said in a statement on Thursday that it has formed a five-strong committee, which will be responsible monitoring and taking steps to release information, hold media calls, carry out awareness campaigns and rectify incorrect information over the coronavirus.
The panel will also serve as the focal point of the ministry, according to it.
“If anyone from the healthcare sector makes a statement without proper authorization, then that person will be solely responsible for that statement from now on,” said Md Mainul Islam Pradhan, the member secretary of the cell.
Md Habibur Rahman Khan, additional secretary to the Health Services Division, has been made the convener of cell, said Pradhan, the information and public relations officer of Health Ministry.
The others members of the cell are Additional Secretary Begum Rina Parveen, Joint Secretary Begum Nilufar Nazneen, and System Analyst Ahmed Latiful Hossain.
