They said that they now had no way to make a living during the coronavirus epidemic, with the lockdown stripping them of any opportunities to work

Update : 20 Apr 2020, 03:58 PM

A group of people blocked a road in-front of the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Monday afternoon, demanding relief aid.

The group reportedly consisted of residents from the Bihari Camp area in the capital.

Pallabi Police Inspector (investigation) Abdul Mabud confirmed the matter.

The agitated group said that they now had no way to make a living during the coronavirus epidemic, with the lockdown stripping them of any opportunities to work and feed their families, said the inspector.

They also claimed to have received no relief aid, which has been distributed all over the capital in recent weeks to tackle shortages caused by the crisis, he added.

The group blocked the road around 12pm. They lifted the protest around 12:30pm when police and army personnel rushed to the scene.

Coronavirus has so far infected 2,456 people and killed 91 people in Bangladesh.
