Coronavirus: 214 Canadian citizens leave Dhaka by chartered flight

'The special flight will land at Toronto International Airport after transiting in Doha'

214 Canadian citizens have left Dhaka for Toronto by a special chartered flight amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman, Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman, said: “A special chartered flight of Qatar Airways left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) with 214 Canadian citizens at 9:05pm.”

“The special flight will land at Toronto International Airport after transiting in Doha. The passengers will remain inside the aircraft during transit,” he added.

As of Tuesday, Bangladesh has confirmed 1,012 coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 46 after five new fatalities were reported.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has so far killed 121,000 people in more than 200 countries and territories.
