The government has initiated the process of revising the 2006 Visa Policy, with a draft of the proposed Visa Policy 2026 placed before the Cabinet at its meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday.

The decision was taken at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani announced the decision at a press briefing after the meeting. The Cabinet Division also confirmed it in a press release.

According to the Cabinet Division, the Cabinet approved the formation of a committee headed by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to review and revise the draft Visa Policy 2026 by amending the existing 2006 policy.

The proposed policy aims to facilitate and streamline the entry and exit of foreign nationals, while attracting foreign investment, businesses and skilled professionals. It also seeks to promote the tourism and hospitality sectors, encourage technology and knowledge transfer, maintain national security and international diplomatic balance, manage international travel based on the principle of reciprocity, and establish a modern, service-oriented immigration framework.

The Ministry of Home Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee.
