Update : 24 Nov 2025, 03:30 PM

The Election Commission (EC) has suspended the National Identity Card (NID) correction service as it begins preparing and printing the voter list for the 13th national parliamentary election.

Md Saiful Islam, director (operations) of the National Identity Registration Division, confirmed the development on Monday, saying the suspension took effect from 4pm and will continue until further notice.

Earlier, ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of the division, had told the media that the commission would decide whether the NID correction process would continue during election preparations.

On November 18, Senior Secretary to the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed published the final voter list.

He said the list includes all citizens who turned 18 by October 31 this year.

According to the EC, the country now has 127,695,183 voters — 64,814,907 men, 62,879,042 women, and 1,234 third-gender voters.

The EC is preparing to hold the 13th national election in the first half of February next year and is also considering holding a referendum on the same day.
