Local Government, Sports and Youth Affairs Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain expressed concern over the propagation of rumours on social media being shared by mainstream media, describing it as deeply regrettable.
He noted that such actions are often politically motivated.
During a press briefing with journalists on Monday at Jahapur Bazar in his hometown Muradnagar, Comilla, he shared these comments.
Later, while speaking to the crowd at Darora Bazar, the adviser conveyed Eid greetings.
He said that written requests regarding local welfare would be promptly acted upon by the relevant authorities.
Regarding the election roadmap and local government elections, the adviser said that the Election Commission will announce the roadmap in due time, keeping in mind the election date set for the first half of April.
He further said that in the absence of elected local government representatives, citizens are being deprived of essential public services.
Given the multiple tiers of local government, the Election Commission will be instructed to hold elections as per the decision of the government, he said.
Addressing rumours involving his family, Asif Mahmud claimed that a particular group has attempted to malign his family by linking them to an incident in Chandpur.
“I have spoken with the Ministry of Information. As a citizen of this country, I will pursue legal action,” he affirmed.
He also added: “People have various needs and demands. I have come here primarily to listen to them directly.”
Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain visited Muradnagar in Comilla primarily to exchange post-Eid greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and to inspect various ongoing development initiatives in his constituency.
He was warmly received by people from diverse professional and social backgrounds, who welcomed him with floral greetings.
On the morning of Monday, he went Muradnagar via Eliotganj on the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway.
During his visit, he inspected ongoing development works in the villages of Babutipara, Paharpur, Saliakandi, Jahapur, Shusunda, Darora and Nohol Chowmuhani.
