Bangladesh Bank on Sunday unveiled images of newly designed banknotes in denominations of Tk 500, Tk 200, Tk 100, and Tk 10, bearing the signature of Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur, as well as Tk5 and Tk2.
Bangladesh Bank has initiated the printing of a new series of banknotes titled “Historic and Archaeological Architecture of Bangladesh,” covering all denominations (Tk1,000, Tk500, Tk200, Tk100, Tk50, Tk20, Tk10, Tk5, and Tk2).
The new Tk1,000, Tk50, and Tk20 notes, which entered circulation for the first time on Sunday.
The Tk500, Tk200, Tk100, and Tk10 notes, as well as the Tk5 and Tk2 currency notes, will be released gradually.
The central bank will later inform the public of each issue date and the security features of the printed notes through press releases.
All previously issued paper and coin currency of these denominations will remain valid alongside the new notes.
Tk500
The Tk500 note, signed by the Bangladesh Bank governor, measures 152mm by 65mm.
The front features the Central Shaheed Minar, Dhaka on the left and a blooming Shapla—the national flower—with leaves and stem in the centre background.
The back displays the Bangladesh Supreme Court. The note is predominantly green.
The watermark includes the face of a Royal Bengal Tiger, the numeral "500," and the Bangladesh Bank monogram.
Tk200
The Tk200 note measures 146mm by 63mm.
The front shows Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University on the left and a blooming Shapla flower with leaves and stem in the background.
The back features graffiti drawn by students during the July uprising. The note is predominantly yellow.
The watermark includes the face of a Royal Bengal Tiger, the numeral "200," and the Bangladesh Bank monogram.
Tk100
The Tk100 note measures 140mm by 62mm.
The front shows the Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagerhat on the left and a blooming Shapla flower with leaves and stem in the background.
The back depicts the Sundarbans of Bangladesh. The note is predominantly blue.
The watermark includes the face of a Royal Bengal Tiger, the numeral "100," and the Bangladesh Bank monogram.
Tk10
The Tk10 note measures 123mm by 60mm.
The front features Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Dhaka on the left and a blooming Shapla flower with leaves and stem in the background.
The back features graffiti drawn by students during the July uprising. The note is predominantly pink.
The watermark includes the face of a Royal Bengal Tiger, the numeral "10," and the Bangladesh Bank monogram.
Tk5
The Tk5 currency note, signed by the secretary of finance, measures 117mm by 60mm.
The front features Tara Mosque, Dhaka on the left and a blooming Shapla flower with leaves and stem in the background.
The back shows graffiti drawn by students during the uprising. The note is predominantly pink.
The watermark includes the face of a Royal Bengal Tiger, the numeral "5," and the monogram of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Tk2
The Tk2 currency note, also signed by the secretary of finance, measures 100mm by 60mm.
The front features the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur, Dhaka on the left and a blooming Shapla flower with leaves and stem in the background.
The back depicts the Rayer Bazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial, Dhaka. The note is predominantly light green.
The watermark includes the face of a Royal Bengal Tiger, the numeral "2," and the monogram of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
