The government has increased the price of cowhide by Tk5 per square foot compared to last year, setting the rate at Tk60–65 within Dhaka and Tk55–60 outside Dhaka.
Commerce Adviser SK Bashir Uddin shared the information while speaking at a press briefing held at the Secretariat on Sunday.
Additionally, the prices of goat (khashi) and goat (bakri) hides have been increased by Tk2, fixing the rate at Tk22–27 per square foot, while salt-applied goat hide will be sold at Tk20–22.
A minimum per-piece price for cowhide has been set at Tk1,350 in Dhaka and Tk1,150 outside the capital.
Last year, the salt-applied raw cowhide price was also Tk60–65 per square foot in Dhaka, but only Tk50–55 outside Dhaka.
Goat (khashi) hide prices were fixed at Tk20–25, and goat (bakri) hides at Tk18–20 per square foot.
The minimum per-piece price for cowhide was Tk1,200 in Dhaka and Tk1,000 outside Dhaka.
A small cowhide measuring 20 square feet, or a hide from a cow worth Tk1 lakh, would fetch the minimum per-piece price under the new structure.
