The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) has cancelled plans for 10 economic zones across the country.
Azad Majumder, deputy press secretary to the chief adviser, said on Sunday that the decision was made by Bida’s governing board.
The announcement came following a meeting at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
The decision includes the cancellation of five public and five private economic zones.
The cancelled public economic zones are: Sonadia Eco Tourism Park (Cox’s Bazar), Sundarbans Tourism Park (Bagerhat), Gojaria Economic Zone (Munshiganj), Sreepur Economic Zone (Gazipur), and Mymensingh Economic Zone (Mymensingh).
The cancelled private zones are: BGMEA Garments Industrial Park (Munshiganj), Chhatak Economic Zone (Sunamganj), Fomcom Economic Zone (Bagerhat), City Special Economic Zone (Dhaka), and Sonargaon Economic Zone (Narayanganj).
