Factory owners have been warned of legal action if workers’ wages and allowances are not paid by Thursday, according to Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
He issued this warning on Tuesday, following a meeting addressing worker unrest at various locations, including the Beximco Industrial Park.
Sakhawat Hossain said that all wages and allowances must be disbursed by Thursday.
Failure to do so will result in legal measures against the responsible parties.
Additionally, no factory owner will be permitted to leave the country while owing wages to workers.
Furthermore, the labour adviser noted that the International Labour Organization (ILO) has extended the deadline for meeting its stipulated conditions for labour sector improvements from December to March.
