Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani has dismissed discussions about the imposition of a state of emergency in the country as mere "gossip."
Speaking to journalists at the Home Ministry on Monday, he said that there is no information suggesting a possible deterioration in law and order.
He added that the situation remains under the government's control.
On Sunday night, rumours spread on social media that a state of emergency was being declared in the country. Supporters of the ousted Awami League shared various posts on the matter.
When asked about this, the secretary said: "These are just gossip and discussions."
He added: "We are alert, the police are alert, and we are all working to maintain stability."
