Shafiqul: Bangladesh to graduate from LDC status in 2026

Once Bangladesh graduates from LDC status, the country’s national prestige will increase, says CA’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Thursday said the Cabinet Division has decided that the country will officially graduate from the LDC category in 2026.

"Discussions regarding Bangladesh’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status have been ongoing for a long time, and a final decision on this matter has been made today," he said during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

The press secretary said: “The chief adviser has emphasized the need to start preparing for the challenges that may arise in this transition. Accordingly, several position papers have been developed, and we are preparing based on those.”

He added: “Once Bangladesh graduates from LDC status in 2026, the country’s national prestige will increase, and its trade capacity will be further strengthened.”
