Update : 02 Mar 2025, 03:00 PM

The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken a series of key decisions to enhance law and order across the country, including Dhaka, with regular monitoring in place to ensure effective implementation.

Key measures taken by the ministry include:

  • Nationwide crackdown: Special operations began on February 8, 2025, to apprehend identified criminals, terrorists, drug traffickers, and smugglers.
  • Training for law enforcement: A nationwide workshop titled "Enforcing the Law with Emphasis on Human Rights and the Environment in the Changing Situation of the Country" was conducted for police, administration, judiciary, and public prosecutors to strengthen enforcement efficiency.
  • Transparent communication: Senior law enforcement officials, including police unit heads, deputy commissioners, and brigade heads, are now briefing the media on decisions taken for each incident.
  • Enhanced security in Dhaka: Checkpoints and crime-prone areas are under increased surveillance. Joint forces, comprising army, police, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), are conducting targeted operations. Navy and Coast Guard are providing additional patrols in key areas.
  • Crime suppression efforts: Coordinated operations are being carried out to arrest criminals, including robbers, dacoits, and juvenile gangs.
  • Updated criminal database: Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to update lists of wanted criminals station-wise and take immediate action.
  • Heightened security in key areas: Patrolling has been intensified in Tongi, Bosila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj — known crime hotspots.
  • Upgraded mobility: The government is procuring motorcycles for Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), BGB, Ansar, and Coast Guard personnel to improve rapid response in narrow alleys and high-crime areas.
  • Countering misinformation: Authorities have initiated efforts to disseminate factual information to combat rumours and propaganda.
  • High-level monitoring: Top officials, including the home adviser, special assistant to the chief adviser, home secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), and DMP commissioner, are personally inspecting and monitoring police stations, checkpoints, and patrol operations at night and early mornings.
  • Regular oversight of law enforcement: The home adviser has held meetings with law enforcement officials in all administrative divisions, providing necessary directives.
  • Night-time supervision: Home ministry officials have been assigned to oversee night patrol operations in Dhaka, ensuring effectiveness.
  • Case monitoring committees: Committees have been formed at the district and metropolitan levels to scrutinize cases, ensuring that only genuine criminals are prosecuted while protecting innocent individuals from harassment.
  • Justice for martyrs’ families: Cases related to the families of the July Revolution martyrs are being closely monitored to ensure justice for the victims.
  • Incident review mechanism: The Ministry of Home Affairs is reviewing every law-and-order-related incident and taking necessary actions accordingly.

These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement, ensuring public safety, and maintaining stability across the country.
