Gazette issued on lifting police verification for issuing passport

Underage individuals abroad can apply with birth registration certificates

Update : 17 Feb 2025, 09:50 PM

The government has removed the police verification process before issuing passports to simplify services and ease public suffering.

The Security Services Division issued a gazette notification announcing the change on Monday.

According to the notification, Bangladesh has a well-organized and reliable database of its citizens.

As a result, passports can now be issued based on National Identity Cards (NIDs) without the need for police verification.

For underage applicants, passports will be issued based on their birth registration certificates.

Police verification will not be required if the information in the application matches the details in the official database.

The government has instructed the relevant authorities to verify applicants’ information online through their NIDs before issuing passports.

Additionally, underage individuals living abroad can obtain passports using their birth registration certificates.
