The Public Administration Reform Commission has recommended the establishment of a capital metropolitan government, similar to New Delhi’s model, encompassing Dhaka metropolis, Tongi, Keraniganj, Savar and Narayanganj.
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder disclosed the matter during a press briefing in front of the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday.
He said the commission also proposed reorganizing four divisions into four provinces and reducing the number of ministries and directorates. The recommendation suggests limiting ministries to 25 and directorates to 44.
Earlier in the day, the Public Administration Reform Commission and Judiciary Reform Commission submitted their reports to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at Jamuna.
In October, the Cabinet Division issued a notification forming six reform commissions, including those on constitutional, electoral system, anti-corruption and police reforms.
Reports from the Constitutional, Electoral System, Anti-Corruption Commission and Police Reform Commissions were submitted to the chief adviser on January 15.
