Ministry of Public Administration issues warning to protesting officials

Disputes began after reform recommendations on December 17

Update : 31 Dec 2024, 04:21 PM

The Ministry of Public Administration has cautioned that programs by officials from 26 cadres over rank and promotion demands could breach conduct rules, potentially resulting in disciplinary action.

This warning came in a notice from the Ministry of Public Administration issued on Tuesday.

Currently, two groups are active in the public administration regarding demands related to rank and promotion.

On one side are the administration cadre officials, and on the other side is the Inter-Cadre Disparity Elimination Council, which includes officials from 25 other cadres.

This situation arose primarily after discussions began on December 17 regarding recommendations of the Public Administration Reform Commission.

Officials from these 26 cadres have been holding various programs such as protest meetings, gatherings, human chains, and pen-down strikes to press home their demands.

Additionally, many officials have been active on social media, particularly Facebook, expressing their views for and against these issues.

The Inter-Cadre Disparity Elimination Council is also scheduled to hold a rally on January 3.

These matters have sparked extensive discussions recently.

In this context, the Ministry of Public Administration, through its notice, said that recently, some government employees of various ranks have been organizing rallies, sit-ins, human chains, and pen-down strikes to voice their demands, tarnishing the image of government employees.

It added that it has been observed that some individuals are making negative statements or comments on social media about certain government decisions, orders, or reform initiatives before their implementation, which is a violation of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules.

The notice highlighted certain provisions of the rules.

For instance, no government employee may publicly object to or obstruct the implementation of any government decision or order.

They are also prohibited from inciting or encouraging others to do so.

The Ministry of Public Administration’s notice said that any violation of these provisions would be considered misconduct.

If any government employee violates the provisions of the rules, they will be subject to disciplinary action for misconduct.

The government takes a very strict stance regarding any behavior by public servants that violates discipline.
