Govt to procure rice, lentil, edible oil for domestic needs

The approvals came from the 17th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP)

The government, on Wednesday approved separate proposals for procuring rice, lentil and edible oil to address domestic demands and stabilize markets at the 17th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat.

Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.

Following a proposal of the Ministry of Food, the Food Authority would procure 50,000Mt of non-Basmati boiled rice through an international open tender from M/S Bagadiya Brothers Private Limited, Indian at a total cost of Tk274 crore, with each Mt priced at $456.67.

In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure some 10,000Mts of lentil from Sheikh Agro Food Industries under local Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Tk95.40 crore where per kg lentil would cost Tk95.40.

The TCB would also procure 1.10 crore litres of soybean oil under local OTM for the current fiscal year from City Edible Oil Limited with around Tk189.47 crore with the price of per litre oil fixed at Tk172.25.
