Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has approved the merger of the Public Security Division and the Security Service Division.

This information was conveyed in a letter signed by AKM Moniruzzaman, director of the chief adviser's office, to the secretary of the Cabinet Division on Sunday.

The letter says the chief adviser has directed the merger of these two divisions for the public interest, considering the extensive work, need for greater coordination, enhanced dynamism, and importance.

In January 2017, the Home Ministry was divided into two divisions.

The Public Security Division included organizations such as the Bangladesh Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, Bangladesh Coast Guard, investigative agencies, and the International Crimes Tribunal.

On the other hand, the Security Service Division included the Department of Immigration and Passport, the Prison Department, the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, the Narcotics Control Department, and the National Telecommunications Monitoring Cell (NTMC).

Notably, some officials and employees of the Security Service Division objected to this arrangement from the beginning.
