Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said the government has initially identified approximately 18,000 individuals injured during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.

The chief adviser is overseeing the creation of a detailed list of those injured and killed during the recent student uprising, Shafiqul Alam said during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Sunday.

The briefing was held to discuss a meeting between Dr Yunus and student leaders from various universities and colleges at the chief adviser's office in Tejgaon.

In response to a question, Shafiqul said 150 people involved in the anti-discrimination movement have shared their experiences. The chief adviser listened to their accounts, which led to emotional reactions from those present.

He said some have not undergone post-mortem procedures due to issues with law enforcement, complicating the data collection process.

Additionally, many families performed funeral rites quickly to avoid police complications, leading to several deaths being recorded without proper documentation. Efforts are being made to expedite the creation of a comprehensive list, with preliminary data already compiled. A final list will be released once all information is gathered, he added.
