Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has vowed to ensure justice for extrajudicial killings, disappearances, murders and abductions committed by the "previous fascist government."
In a televised speech to the nation on Sunday, he pledged to prevent the country from ever becoming a police state again.
He announced that measures are being taken to free the judiciary from corruption and political influence, aiming to ensure judicial independence and accountability through a specific process.
He promised that justice would be ensured for all those involved in the egregious crimes of the previous regime, with false cases being withdrawn and corruption and asset embezzlement being addressed.
To create a people-oriented and accountable law enforcement structure, a police commission will be established, he said.
Dr Yunus criticized the misuse of forces, including the army, police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in acts of abduction and torture, which have tainted their reputations.
He emphasized that while these forces are a source of national pride, the actions of a few overzealous members should not tarnish the entire institution.
Efforts will be made to identify and punish the criminals responsible, ensuring that no member of these forces engages in such heinous activities in the future, regardless of orders from higher authorities, he added.
He instructed all national defence and law enforcement agencies to identify and bring to justice those directly involved in extrajudicial killings, disappearances, and physical or mental abuse. Lists of the disappeared and murdered will be compiled, and efforts will continue to restore peace to the lives of their families.
Dr Yunus also directed the strengthening of all security and law enforcement agencies to restore public trust.
