Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Md Nahid Islam on Saturday directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to provide diesel for generators free of charge to keep mobile network towers operational in Feni District.

According to a press release from the ministry, the adviser said that due to the power outage, there is a high demand for diesel to keep 78 mobile towers in Feni operational.

Given the current flood situation, it is crucial to maintain the functionality of these mobile towers.

Therefore, he has instructed the BTRC to provide the necessary diesel for these generators free of charge.

The release notes that a portable generator (75 kVA) uses 2.3 litres of diesel per hour, while each 30 kVA generator uses 4.4 litres.

With 78 generators in operation, the daily diesel consumption amounts to 6,552 litres, costing approximately Tk714,168.

For seven days, the total diesel requirement is 45,864 litres, which costs around Tk4,999,176.

The funds for this expense will be provided from the BTRC’s fund, as per the adviser’s directive.
