Environment Adviser: Ministry will focus more on serving public

Emphasized Ministry’s commitment to addressing current public expectations

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the adviser assigned to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has announced plans to make the ministry more people-friendly by implementing effective measures to tackle various types of pollution.

Speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with Ministry officials on Sunday, Rizwana Hasan outlined several key initiatives aimed at improving environmental management and increasing public engagement.

She emphasized the ministry’s commitment to addressing current public expectations while maintaining its mandated activities.

Key priorities include preventing the use of polythene and single-use plastics, controlling air and noise pollution, combating river pollution, enhancing waste management, protecting mountains and forests, preventing the filling up of water bodies, and implementing High Court orders. These measures are set to be undertaken with high priority.

The adviser also highlighted the need for increased involvement of all stakeholders in environmental work, including international and national organizations, civil society, mass media, the private sector, academics, and professionals.

She stressed the importance of continuous dialogue at both national and departmental levels.

To improve efficiency, Rizwana Hasan announced plans to expedite complaint resolution processes within the ministry and its subordinate departments.

Regular meetings of the National Environment Committee will be convened to make critical decisions regarding environmental protection.

Additionally, the ministry and directorate will provide regular updates on their decisions through their website to ensure transparency and accountability.

The meeting, held in the Bangladesh Secretariat, was attended by the ministry’s secretary, additional secretaries, and senior officials.

Rizwana Hasan was warmly welcomed by these officials upon her arrival at the Secretariat.

In her address, Rizwana Hasan also sought forgiveness for the martyrs of the student movement and announced that opportunities would be created for student representatives to participate in the ministry’s activities.

She emphasized plans to implement motivational activities aimed at increasing the mobility of ministry officers and employees.
