The prices of motorcycles over 250cc may increase as the national budget for fiscal year 2024-25 has proposed increasing the import duty from 5% to 15% on many parts of motorcycles.
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.
Before that, the proposed budget was approved by the cabinet and later the proposal was signed by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
In the budget presentation, he said: “I recommend levying 10% import duty on the import of parts for motorcycles with engine capacity above 250cc.
“Besides, I recommend increasing the existing import duty from 5% to 15% against the respective products in Bangladesh Customs Tariff,” he added.
This was his first budget unveiling and the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
