As part of the government's ongoing policy to facilitate access to medical care, ambulances are eligible for reduced import duties which would reduce its cost.
Regarding the import of ambulances, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said: “In this scenario, complications in customs assessment arise due to the absence of a fixed minimum length for imported ambulances. To resolve this issue, it is advisable to establish a minimum length for the passenger cabin area of the ambulance. As a result, I propose updating the description of ambulances in the HS code where minimum passenger cabin length will be 9 feet.”
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.
This was his first budget unveiling and the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
