Enam: Six committees formed to monitor relief activities

He gave assurance of giving additional allocation of relief assistance in future if needed

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman on Saturday said a total of six committees have been formed to monitor the activities of relief assistance programmes of the government in the country.

“These six committees will monitor the relief activities at upazila, union and field levels. Those committees have been tasked with monitoring such activities for the next 21 days,” he said.

The state minister was speaking at a press briefing on the overall flood situation from his ministry’s conference room online in presence of Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Mohsin.

He gave assurance of giving additional allocation of relief assistance in future if needed.

Enamur also mentioned the helpline number ‘333’ advising people to seek relief through the number during their sufferings.

He said about 12,010 metric tons of rice have been allocated so far to 31 flood-affected districts– Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Manikganj, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Jamalpur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Sunamganj.

These districts also got allocation of more than Tk3.36 crore in cash, 1.21 lakh packets of dry and other food items, TK1.48 crore for cow-food, Tk70 lakh for baby food, 300 bundles of Corrugated Iron sheets and Tk9 lakh as house-grant, he added.

About the flood, he expressed his optimism that the water level of the rivers may fall from all parts of Bangladesh in the first week of August considering the tide of the sea.
