Ministry: Dubbed content not to air without permission

Foreign movies dubbed in Bangla are relished by the viewers

The Ministry of Information has barred local television channels from airing any foreign language programs dubbed in Bangla, without running it by the ministry first.

The ministry noted that the local channels have been broadcasting foreign films, drama serials as well as other contents without permission, said a handout.

The ministry sent a letter to the channels on Wednesday urging them to follow the law before broadcasting such programs.

According to section 19 (14) of Cable Television Network Act, any television channel has to seek permission to air any dubbed foreign program, drama-serial or movie. 

Decision to allow broadcasting will be done on a case-by-case basis.

The handout urged television channels  to take permission from the ministry and collect the certificate under the Censorship Act for broadcasting movie in private channels.

Television content is forever evolving to keep up with changing tastes of viewers and hence television audience see different genres taking precedence from time to time. 

Dubbed content is not a new phenomenon on television – foreign movies have been dubbed in Bangla are relished by the viewers.
