Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed all concerned to implement projects more rapidly—maintaining the quality and standard of work—and strengthening monitoring in this regard.
The Prime Minister gave the directive in her introductory speech at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) held at Sher-e Bangla Nagar on Tuesday.
It was the first meeting of Ecnec after the formation of the new government led by Sheikh Hasina—for her third consecutive term—following the massive victory of Awami League in the December 30 general election, reports UNB.
“The country witnessed massive development and progress during the last two terms of the Awami League government due to the continued, sincere, and coordinated efforts of all concerned,” Sheikh Hasina said.
She emphasized expediting the work on the projects which were approved, particularly in the last few months, in the last term of her government. She said they should be implemented without hampering their quality and standards.
The Prime Minister said, “All will have to work with utmost sincerity and integrity to improve the lives and livelihoods of the common people who kept their trust and confidence in Awami League in the last general election.”
She underscored the need to undertake plans to change the fate of the grassroots people and end poverty sooner.
Hasina said, assuming office for the next five years after winning the election, she first reorganized her cabinet to achieve the specific targets of her government.
She mentioned that the country already achieved a 7.86% GDP growth rate and Bangladesh has now been recognized as a developing country. She stressed the importance of maintaining the pace of development in the days ahead.
The Prime Minister said her government wants to establish Bangladesh as a middle-income country by 2021, and a developed and prosperous one by 2041; implementing long-term perspective plans of her government.
The premier also expressed her hope that the new cabinet will be able to reach the desired goal of establishing Sonar Bangladesh through their teamwork, like before, as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
