Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has prioritized representatives of the deprived regions of the country in her new 47-member cabinet.

Quader, also the general secretary of Awami League, made the remarks while talking to journalists at the secretariat on Monday.

“The premier has formed the new cabinet with new young and old faces; adhering to the party’s election manifesto,” Quader said, adding that the new council might expand.

“Changes to portfolios may come if the new faces cannot perform well. The amount of days they [the ministers] can carry out their duties depends on their performance,” he said.

“Now, let us see how people receive the new cabinet,” he said hoping that the ministers will manage the pace between reality and expectation.

About the exclusion of several senior ministers from the last cabinet, Quader said they have done their duties successfully and now will work together to strengthen the party.

He also expressed his optimism referring to Jatiya Party’s role as the main opposition in the 11th parliament saying it will allow for democracy to flourish.

Quader concluded that the new government will continue its fight against corruption and establish good governance in the country.
