Foreign ministry official: Islamabad rejects claims of expelling Bangladesh’s envoy

News had surfaced that the government of Pakistan was considering expelling the Bangladeshi high commissioner in Islamabad, due to delays in the acceptance of designated Pakistan High Commissioner to Dhaka Saqlain Syedah by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry

Bangladesh does not see any indication that Pakistan was considering the expulsion of its High Commissioner in Islamabad, a Foreign Ministry official has said.

"No, we have not seen any such indication," the official said as quoted by UNB.

News had surfaced that the government of Pakistan was considering expelling the Bangladeshi high commissioner in Islamabad, due to delays in the acceptance of designated Pakistan High Commissioner to Dhaka Saqlain Syedah by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, however, rejected the claims.

"The agreement on an ambassador (high commissioner) is a bilateral issue and is being pursued through diplomatic channels. No other action has been taken," a spokesperson of the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters in Islamabad on Thursday.

The post of high commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh fell vacant after the retirement of Rafiuzaman Siddiqui in February this year.

Following Siddiqui’s retirement, Saqlain Syedah was designated as new High Commissioner to Bangladesh, according to Pakistan media reports.

A fresh diplomatic row between Dhaka and Islamabad emerged following Dhaka's refusal to accept the new high commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, the media claimed.

Highly placed diplomatic sources said the Pakistan foreign ministry had sent the proposed nomination of its envoy to Bangladesh in early March this year, but Bangladesh was yet to respond to the appointment.

Dhaka has neither accepted nor rejected the nomination of the new high commissioner of Pakistan, Bangladesh foreign ministry officials said.
