The residents from Indian enclaves inside Bangladesh yesterday submitted a memorandum to the foreign minister through district commissioner, demanding an exchange of enclaves between the two countries.
The representatives of Bangladesh-India Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee led by its General Secretary Golam Mostofa of Bangladesh chapter placed the memorandum to the district commissioner.
The move aims at laying an ultimate enclave exchange plan at the forthcoming meeting between Bangladesh’s foreign minister and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj due on June 25 in Dhaka.
There are 162 enclaves between Bangladesh and India. Of them, Bangladesh has 51 enclaves inside India while the latter has 151 enclaves in Bangladesh territory. On September 6, 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her former Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh signed a protocol on the enclave exchange.
