Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Saturday described Fakir Lalon Shah as the lighthouse of humanity, drawing an analogy with a ship lost at sea that looks for a lighthouse to find its direction.
“Lalon Shah is the lighthouse of humanity. This evening is important, but he needs to be remembered every day,” said the high commissioner while addressing the “Lalon Sandhya” at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
Highlighting Lalon Shah's philosophy of universal humanity and inclusiveness, the Indian envoy said Lalon Shah was also a bridge of friendship between Bangladesh and India.
The musical evening was jointly organized by the High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre to celebrate the timeless legacy of the legendary Baul mystic.
Senior government representatives, singers, cultural activists, civil society members and senior journalists attended the program.
The evening was dedicated to the songs, philosophy, and enduring humanist message of Lalon Shah, whose music continues to transcend borders and connect people through the shared values of humanity, love and harmony.
