Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali will remain in Dhaka during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to Japan, with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary Md Nazrul Islam set to oversee preparations and arrangements in Tokyo.

Sources at the ministry said the ambassador would not accompany the prime minister on the visit. Md Daud Ali is currently in Dhaka on the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, a ministry official told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday that the ambassador was in Dhaka due to illness. Whether he would join the prime minister’s visit to Japan would be known after his leave.

The prime minister is scheduled to visit Tokyo from October 26 to 29.

According to relevant sources, Secretary Md Nazrul Islam will stay in Tokyo in the ambassador’s absence and oversee preparations and arrangements for the prime minister’s visit.

Nazrul Islam left Dhaka for Tokyo on Wednesday, October 21, to carry out the responsibilities assigned to him for the visit. He will remain there until the visit concludes.

According to diplomats, it is unusual for an ambassador to be in Dhaka on the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of a prime ministerial visit.
