The Bangladeshis had travelled to Cambodia in search of jobs but became stranded at various scam centres in the country.
They registered to return home after the Cambodian government offered them the opportunity to leave without paying fines.
Accordingly, they arrived at Phnom Penh Airport on September 3. However, during immigration checks, Cambodian immigration police detained 32 Bangladeshis over various complications, including irregular immigration status.
Two were subsequently released, while the remaining 30 were held at the immigration detention centre.
Following an application by an organization named Anirban Survivor Voice Foundation, the first secretary of the labour wing at the Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok was asked to take the necessary steps to secure the detainees’ release and facilitate their early return home.
After the required procedures were completed in phases, the 30 Bangladeshis returned to Bangladesh on Tuesday.
