LGRD Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said Monday that Bangladesh wants to draw on US expertise in water and waste management, renewable energy, agriculture and cold storage.

The minister made the remarks during a meeting with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen at his office in the secretariat.

The two discussed bilateral partnership and potential cooperation in local government and development.

Moyeen said Bangladesh was interested in using US expertise and technical knowledge in the sectors.

“If experience-sharing and cooperation programs are undertaken between the two countries, Bangladesh’s development efforts will become more effective and sustainable,” he said.

The minister said the government believes in empowering people and is working to strengthen local government institutions.

He said effective waste management for urban development and environmental protection remains one of the government’s priorities.

Both sides expressed hope that the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and the US would open new avenues for cooperation in the local government sector.

LGRD State Minister Shahe Alam, senior officials from the ministry and the US embassy also attended the meeting.
