PM Tarique discusses bilateral interests with Indian high commissioner

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday, reaffirming New Delhi’s intent to deepen ties with Dhaka in a “positive, constructive and forward-looking manner.”

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to a PMO release.

During the call, the envoy conveyed India’s willingness to work closely with both the government and the people of Bangladesh on the basis of mutual interest and benefit. Discussions focused on advancing bilateral engagement with an emphasis on people-centric cooperation aligned with the development priorities of both countries, the Indian High Commission said.

The two sides explored opportunities to expand collaboration across a wide range of sectors, including public health, financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, rural development, trade and investment, ease of doing business, technology partnerships, and power and energy.

Verma stressed the importance of leveraging the countries’ geographical proximity to unlock new opportunities by strengthening economic and connectivity linkages, alongside enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and the prime minister’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir were present at the meeting.

The talks covered a range of bilateral issues, with both sides expressing commitment to further strengthening cooperation across multiple domains.
